  1. The bank was established in Whitehaven in 1786 as Hartley, Littledale, Hartley and Potter: the partners were brothers John and Thomas Hartley merchants, Samuel Potter a draper, and Henry Littledale. Also known as Whitehaven Bank.  1837 (as Hartleys and Co.) converted into a joint stock bank, Bank of Whitehaven. Predecessor firm of RBS.

  2. In 1830 the partners of Hartleys & Co. at Whitehaven and Wigton were given as Thomas Hartley, Thomas Hartley the younger, Milham Hartley and George Harrison.
