Silver Salver

Silver salver of 1798, inscribed with the arms of Charles White Williams, donated by Charles White Williams' great grandson James Patrick Ronaldson Lyell (1871-1948) to New College Oxford. The catalogue of New College's silver collection identifies Williams 'whose fortune came from a number of sources, including two large Jamaica sugar plantations.’ Lyell also endowed the Lyell Readership in Bibliography at Oxford.
