The land which later became Haughton Hall was recorded as three separate properties: at the northern border, 500 acres owned by Captain Roger James in 1673; in the centre of the estate was land patented by Dorothy Bannister in 1674; in the south-east 500 acres sold by Timothy Burt to Rowland Williams in 1717.
