On the death of Anna Kupius, despite reports of offers being made for between 4,000 and 5,000l, the estate was acquired by Edward Pennant by escheat for 1,456l. At the time, the estate was reportedly producing 120 hogsheads of sugar per year with a value of at least 20l per hogshead.

Ownership of the estate remained in dispute for the next five years, with Anthony Swymmer and Dutch relatives of Anna Kupius both claiming ownership and the land being further escheated to other buyers. The estate remained under the management of Swymmer, who also owned many of the enslaved people upon it. Matters were settled by Letters Patent in 1719.
