Edward Peach William Miles was a partner in Miles & Co., along with his sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Cave's husband Fulbert Archer.
Miles & Co. had at one time been Miles, Cave & Co. operating from London and Bristol and undertaking trade with the West Indies. Later the firm split and Miles & Co. took the London side of the business, developing trade with Australia in the 1850s and then extensive business in Canterbury, New Zealand, from the 1850s to 1895.
