Joined the East India Company in 1782. In Australia 1796-8 and then England 1798-1802. Back to India, superintending surgeon and member of the Bengal medical board. Retired 1817 with a full-pay pension, reportedly £1,500 per annum.

Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.
