Son of Ebenezer of Lincoln's Inn Fields, arm. Archdeacon of Jamaica. Claimed as tenant for life with power to appoint the remainder among his children in St Mary Nos. 33 & 406: in both cases, the compensation went to trustees, in the former case they were described specifically as responsible for investing it for the benefit of the parties according to the wishes of Maria Jane Pope's will of 1820 [sic].

  1. Matriculated Brasenose 08/04/1812 aged 18; Michel exhibitioner Queen's 1815-6, BA 1816, MA 1819, fellow 1820-7. Died A[rch]d[eaco]n Jamaica Feb 1855.

  2. Appointed Archdeacon of Jamaica by Bishop Lipscomb 1825. His first wife, presumably Maria Jane, died c. 1835. In 1851 he was living at St Catherine's [Hill] House Guildford St Nicholas aged 57 DD w[ith]o[ut] care of souls with wife Augusta aged 53 and daughters Maria J. age 22 and Catherine F. age 20, both born Jamaica.  Edward Pope DD twenty years Archdeacon of Jamaica buried Puttenham Surrey by rector of St Nicholas Guildford March 3 1855 aged 62.  Will of The Ven. Edward Pope Archdeacon of Jamaica, of Brompton Road Middlesex, proved 28/03/1855.
