Biography

Counterclaimed against Henry Barry Coddington (the owner-in-fee) for the compensation for the enslaved people on Creighton Hall in St David Jamaica  in right of wife as annuitant for £5828 10s. The compensation was paid to Robert Snow and William Curtis, probably as trustees for the Hon. Rev. William Herbert and his wife.

The estate is shown as 'heirs of Fitzherbert Richards' in 1818: in the will of Fitzherbert Richards proved 1811 he confirmed an annuity [of an unspecified amount] that he had granted in his lifetime to the wife of Hon. William Herbert. Letitia Emily Dorothea Herbert nee Allen's maternal grandmother Anne Richards was almost certainly related (probably as aunt) to Fitzherbert Richards, who was an absentee slave-owner at the time of William Hickey's visit to Jamaica in the late 18thC. The will of Fitzherbert Richards of Marlborough Buildings Bath was proved 09/08/1811.
