Biography

George Colquhoun Grant unsuccessfully claimed for the compensation for Adelphi Estate in St Vincent as owner-in-fee. Brother of Major Charles Grant and uncle of Louisa Ann Grant (both q.v.).

  1. George C. Grant registered enslaved persons on Adelphi in 1834 for Chas Grant and George Grant, heirs of the late Chas Grant and of himself, Mrs Birch [née Ann Montgomerie Grant, sister of George Colquhoun Grant] and Sarah Grant [also sister of George Colqhoun Grant] as devisees under the last will of Chas Grant the elder [of Carron, their father], deceased.

  2. Presumably the same George Colquhoun Grant who was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Ceylon Regiment on 15/06/1809, promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 02/02/1811 and who retired on half-pay 19/12/1822.

  3. George Colquhoun Grant married Anne More-Molyneux in St Martin-in-the-Fields, Westminster, 26/07/1823. They had two children: Caroline Mayer Grant, born 22/12/1825 in Shalford, Surrey, and James Mayer Grant, born 17/07/1827 in Shalford, Surrey.

  4. Described in various sources as Colonial Secretary and Treasurer of St Vincent.
