Biography

Awarded compensation probably as owner for two small claims in St Catherine Jamaica, and awarded as co-trustee of Robert James Hale with Elizabeth Hale or Hales the compensation for enslaved people on Content estate in St John Jamaica.

  1. Henry Adolphus Hawkins, son of Richard and Mary Neild Hawkins, baptised 27/01/1786 at St David's Exeter.

  2. It is probable that Hawkins was in Jamaica before Emancipation: he may be the Henry Hawkins who was surgeon of the St Andrews troop of the Surrey Regiment of Horse from 25/11/1814 until at least 1824.  

  3. Henry Adolphus Hawkins surgeon of Reading Berkshire, son of Richard Hawkins solicitor married Sarah Baker widow at St Mary Magdalene Woolwich 28/12/1837. Henry Mortimer Hawkins, baptised in Windsor in 1840. Daughter Eliza Niele Hawkins baptised 1843 in Marylebone (parents' abode 13 Acacia Road, St John's Wood). Son Knowling Charles baptised in Marylebone in 1847 (parents' abode 6 St Ann's Terrace, St John's Wood). In 1851 he was living at 6 Upper York Place, Marylebone, "surgeon not practising", age 61, born Exeter, with his wife Sarah, age 41, children Henry M, age 10, born Windsor, Eliza N, age 7, born Marylebone and Knowling C, age 3, born Marylebone, and two female servants.

  4. Will of Henry Adolphus Hawkins surgeon of Belsize Road  St John's Wood proved 29/11/1856. Burial of Henry Adolphus Hawkins All Souls Kensal Green 07/10/1856 aged 69.
