???? - 1840
James A. Delle traces Cherrington's trajectory from overseer on Friendship's Retreat 1796-1803 through his slave-ownership after becoming proprietor of Mount Pleasant c.1809 to his building up of Mount Pleasant as a provision supplier to the neighbouring Radnor, of which he was attorney.
Will of John Cherrington of St David, Surrey Jamaica proved 05/08/1840. Under the will he left £3200 in consols to David Mignot (his son-in-law) and £10,000 in consols in trust for his grandchildren, the children of David Mignot and Elizabeth, Cherrington's daughter. He left £33 6s 8d currency each to George Amos, Susannah Cherrington and Benjamin Cherrington '(black people) my late apprentices formerly domiciled on Mount Pleasant and Wellington coffee plantation.' He left the two estates themselves to 'Sophia Fleming (a black woman).'
The personal estate of John Cherrington of Jamaica was sworn by his executors at under £14,000.

Although the links for this entry include part ownership of Friendship's Retreat, for which 'John James Cherrington' was shown, these might be enslaved people leased or rented by Cherrington. Delle presents John Cherrington as the manager of Friendship's Retreat.
