Mary Buckworth 'Lady Payne' (née Monoux)

Counterclaimed with her second husband Joseph Francis Buckworth against her son Sir Charles Payne (q.v.) for the compensation for the enslaved people on the French Ground estate on St Kitts. The counterclaim was withdrawn, but subsequently the compensation money was assigned to be invested in British stocks and any arrears of her £400 p.a. annuity was to be met from the compensation money.

1. Daughter of Sir Philip Monoux of Sandy, Bedfordshire. Married first Sir John Payne (who died in 1803) and then in 1811 Joseph Francis Buckworth.  

2. Will of Dame Mary Buckworth, commonly called Lady Payne of No. 9 York Street Portman Square proved 10/5/1850. Will of Joseph Francis Buckworth of No. 9 York Street Portman Square proved 29/1/1846.
