Biography

Anthony Wilkinson (1770-1842) who inherited Kendal and Sedbergh estates in Jamaica from his brother William Robinson Wilkinson (1776-1831).

  1. Anthony Wilkinson was the son of Robert Wilkinson and Mary Wilson, born 02/05/1770 at Hole House, Sedbergh, Yorkshire. According to family sources, he moved to Jamaica as a young man and lived there for 20 years before returning to Sedburgh where he married Jane Sedgwick in 1809. In 1824 he bought Brosdale Beck in Howgill, Yorkshire, for £1,164. The second of three brothers, he inherited Kendal and Sedburgh estates from his younger brother William Robinson Wilkinson (1776-1831). 

  2. In 1838 he sold Kendal, Friendship and Sedburgh estates to John Clark for £3500. 

  3. Living at Hole, Sedbergh, in the census of 1841, age 70, Ind., born in county, with Jane Wilkinson, age 55, not born in county, Ann Wilkinson, age 15, born in county, Jane Gill, age 3, not born in county, 2 female servants and 1 male servant. His widow Jane Wilkinson is still living at Hole House in the census of 1851, age 66, landed proprietor, with her son William age 40, commission merchant, and 2 female servants.
