Of Edinburgh, widow of Charles Wightman, claimed as a trustee and counterclaimed on her own account as annuitant for the compensation for the enslaved people on the Concordia estate on Tobago. She subsequently died (c. 1835) and her executors were awarded a share of the compensation.
T71/891 Tobago no. 46 claim by Eliz Wightman etc (trustees apptd by Eliz Robertson dau and heir of Charles Wightman decd) and Eliz Robertson. Eliz[abeth] Wightman of 50 North Castle Edinburgh, widow of Charles Wightman, counterclaimed in her own right for annuity of £300 arrears of £799, and for jointure £300 p.a. plus £5000 under will of Charles Wightman. Elizabeth Wightman died; John Mackintosh, Andrew Sievewright and James Renton her executors revived claim in their names. T71/1610 petition from Elizabeth Wightman: 'your petitioner is labouring under a pecuniary state of embarrassment from the want of payment.' Her claim for an annuity of £300 p.a. was consistent with the will of her husband Charles Wightman, but the claim for jointure appears to have been precautionary rather than incremental.
