Biography

NB: usually spelled Francis Molyneux Ommanney.

Knighted, 1820.

2nd son of Rear-Admiral Cornthwaite Ommanney (1736-1801) of Millbank Row, Westminster and Martha, daughter of Henry Manaton of Kilworthy, nr. Tavistock, Devon.

The family (both antecedents and descendants) was a distinguished naval family (including one of Ommanney's sons, Sir Erasmus Ommanney, [1814–1904]: see Oxford DNB).

Naval agent: 1819 had assumed sole control of the London naval agency founded by his uncle Edward.

On Ommanney's death, his son Octavius carried on the naval agency. In 1862 it amalgamated with a firm of bankers and naval agents to become Hallett, Ommanney and Company; no longer in existence by c1900.
