Biography

  1. Son of Charles Lawrence (q.v.) and Rose D'Aguilar.  His father, who was Justice of Peace, Deputy Lieutenant and Mayor of Liverpool 1823-4, left £70,000 when he died 20/01/1853. George Hall Lawrence was 'magistrate and West India merchant' (1861 census), and himself Mayor of Liverpool 1846-7. Married in 1831 Jane (1802-83), daughter of Thomas Earle of Spekelands. Left £140,000 personalty on his death in 1869 at Mossley Hill [one of the executors proving the will was his nephew William Frederic Lawrence of Bolton Street Piccadilly (London)]. 'His ancestors were Jamaica merchants in the West Indies. He was a second generation Liverpool Mayor.'

  3. In 1851, George Hall Lawrence ('cousin' and 'Magistrate and West India merchant') and his wife Jane were staying with Thomas K[irkpatrick] Hall (aged 84 widower, magistrate and Landed Proprietor') at Holly Bush Hall Newborough Staffs.
