Biography

Awarded compensation for enslaved people on Albany Estate in St Mary, Jamaica, as executor of James McIntyre and guardian of his heirs. Surname also given as Fife.

  1. Laurence Fife, son of Lawrence Fife by his wife Margaret, was born 08/09/1800 and baptised in St Ann 22/03/1802. Alexander Gordon, Charles and Elizabeth Grant, children of Laurence Fyfe and his wife, were baptised in St Ann, Jamaica, 04/05/1810.

  2. Mentioned as the brother in the will of Charles Fyfe of Fyfe Place, Forres, Scotland, and on Harmony Hill [sic - Hall?] in Jamaica in 1837.

  3. Mentioned as the uncle of Charles Fyfe's daughter Charlotte Wright in her will proved in 1858, and the father of her cousins Lawrence Fyfe and Alexander Gordon Fyfe.

  4. The James McIntyre for whom Laurence Fife was executor may be a relation, possibly his son-in-law or perhaps the father of his son-in-law. The will of Charlotte Wright also mentions a James MacIntyre "now in America", son of Lawrence and Alexander Gordon Fyfe's eldest sister.

  5. The mention in Charlotte Wright's will of her grandmother's brother Laurence Leith identifies Laurence as the Laurence Fyfe, baptised 12/10/1766 in Cabrach, Aberdeenshire, son of John Fyfe in Invercarach and his wife Margaret nee Leith. This couple had ten children baptised in Cabrach between 1751 and 1770.
