Biography

Co-owner of Land of Plenty in British Guiana with his younger brother John Austin (q.v.)

William Austin was born 28/02/1759 and baptised 01/04/1759 in St Thomas, Barbados, son of Colonel Thomas Austin (1727-1806) and his first wife Mary Williams (?-1767). He married Mehetabel Piercy (q.v.) 26/02/1807 in Bath, England. They had 8 children, whose births chart the family's movements between Britain and Demerara: William Piercy (1807, Stone, Staffordshire), Mary (1809, Bath), Elizabeth (1810, Demerera), John Gardiner (1812, Demerara), Mehetabel Ann (1814, Demerera), Sarah Louisa (1816, Demerara), Charlotte (1818, Bath) and Hugh Williams (1819, Land of Plenty, Essequibo). William died on Land of Plenty 03/11/1819 leaving Mehetabel as a widow with 8 young children.
