John Hall

John Hall 'merchant of Liverpool' counterclaimed unsuccessfully as judgement creditor for the compensation for a group of enslaved people in Port Royal Jamaica. The compensation was paid to the executors of John Thompson (q.v.). This appears to be a different John Hall to the man connected with the Kirkpatrick Hall family and appearing in an award for the Hall Head estate in St Thomas-in-the-East Jamaica, and is probably the son-in-law and former partner of William Parke of Anfield Lodge (q.v.), the husband of William Parke's daughter Charlotte: this man died at Park Place Gardens Paddington in 1868 leaving £12,000.

1. John Hall, merchant, and Charlotte Parke, a minor, both of Liverpool, married in Liverpool 28/07/1823. In 1851, John Hall, age 58, landowner, retired merchant, magistrate and Deputy Lieutenant, born Addingham, Cumberland, was living at 11 Berkeley Square, Bristol, with his wife Charlotte, age 45, born Jamaica, and chldren Elizabeth age 20, born West Derby, Lancashire, Jane, age 19, born Walton-on-Hill, Lancashire, Emily age 14, born in the same place, John S., age 8, born Scotland, Maxwell, age 6, born Cheltenham and Frances age 3, born in the same place. In 1861, John Hall, age 68, landed proprietor, born Addingham, Cumberland, was living at 1 Park Place Gardens with his wife Charlotte, age 55, born Jamaica, and three daughters Elizabeth, age 30, born West Derby in Lancashire, Emily, age 24, born in the same place and Frances, age 13, born in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.
