Biography

Jane Roberts and Sir Augustus Brydges Henniker (both q.v.) counterclaimed as executors of James Watson Roberts for compensation for Watson's estate in Antigua.

  1. Born in Antigua, the son of Robert Watson and his wife Elizabeth H. Watson. Gained an M.D. at Edinburgh University, 1786. Became a physician to the armed forces, 21/10/1795. Stationed in the West Indies in 1796. Put on half pay, 25/06/1802; returned to full pay 25/07/1803; retired on half-pay, 02/05/1810. Admitted to St John's, Cambridge, 16/06/1798 (did not reside). Became Brevet Deputy-Inspector of Hospitals, 1825. Married Joanna [sic]. Died 01/07/1830, aged 65. Father of Henniker P. Watson

  2. There is a memorial inscription to Jacobi [sic] Watson Roberts and his wife Joanna [sic] in St Michael's, Bishop's Stortford. Joanna appears to be a Latin version of Jane.

  3. Will of James Watson Roberts Doctor of Physic of Bishop's Stortford Essex proved 13/11/1830. He made John Harris and Robert Grant of Antigua the trustees for the property awarded to him by the Court of Chancery in Antigua under the will of 'my late cousin' James Watson of Antigua. He appointed his wife Jane, Sir Augustus Henniker Bridges and Richard Pearson as executors.
