Vice Admiral Thomas Pye

1713 - 26th Dec 1785

Biography

Second son of Henry Pye of Farringdon, Berkshire, and his wife Anne nee Bathurst. Naval officer; MP for Rochester 1771-1775. Brother of Henry Pye, MP for Berkshire 1747-1766.

In 1770, Francis Grant Gordon had granted a bond of £6000 to Sir Willoughby Aston and Thomas Pye, Vice Admiral, to secure an annuity of £200 p.a. to Mary Grant Gordon. On Francis Grant Gordon's death, Sir Willoughby Aston went to court in Antigua to gain a judgement on the bond (to secure it against the plantation?). The enslaved persons went to Mary Grant Gordon in lieu of the annuity for Antigua claim no. 1051.

Note: the History of Parliament gives his birth year as 1713 while the Oxford DNB gives it as 1708/1709.
