Biography

Henry Grannum of St Lucy, Barbados. Son of Andrew Grannum and Catherine (or Katherine) nee Devonish, date of birth unknown. His sister Elizabeth Ann Grannum (q.v.) was born 10 November 1789 (baptised 10 December 1793 in St James church). Although the date of her death is unknown she appears in Henry's will, so is definitely after 1854. Henry Grannum married Elizabeth Redman in 1823 in St Peter's Parish Church. The couple had least six children who survived into adulthood (all named in his will): Sarah Elizabeth Ellis (b.1826, married William Bryan Ellis), Henry Thomas Gent (b.1827, married Sarah Johnson Watson, daughter Dr Abraham Watson), Margaret Catharine (b.1829, married Connor Joseph O' Bryen esq), William Ellis (b.1835), Edward Thomas (b.1844, married Mary Elizabeth Armstrong, daughter William Jordan), Mary Haynes (b1840). Two daughters Rebecca (b.1833) and Mary Anna (b.1838) do not appear to have survived infancy.

The Liberal, recorded his death on 30 August 1854. His will was entered on 8th September 1854. It bequeathed the 'joint property "Prior Park" between Haynes Gibbes Bayley and myself' and property in Speightstown, Barbados. The will also makes provision for his son Henry Thomas Gent's upcoming marriage to Miss Sarah Johnson Watson, leaving the couple £500. His wife was named as executrix, along with sons-in-law William Bryan Ellis and Connor Jospeh O' Bryen, friend Benjamin Stoute Perkins and son William Ellis Grannum. The will was written on 13th July 1854 and witnessed by Richard Stoute and Richard John Stoute
