Hon. John Brathwaite Skeete

Biography

  1. Skeete buried, St Peter, Barbados, 10 October 1833. He and Mary Bishop married 11 November 1799. The marriage was registered in St James, Barbados but the ceremony appears to have taken place 'at Charles Kyd's, St Peter's'. Mary Skeete was also an awardee (q.v.).

    The children of the marriage appear to include: Carlyon DeCourci Skeete (1809-?); Kyd Bishop Skeete (1813-?); Mary Bishop Skeete (?–1843; died on the Mangrove plantation, St. Peter, Barbados); Elizabeth Kyd Skeete (1800–1855 ); Agnes Brathwaite Skeete (1802-1862); John Brathwaite Skeete (23 March 1803–1847); Rev. Henry Bishop Skeete (1815–1893). Henry Bishop was born in Edinburgh, 22 November 1815.

  2. Mary Bishop Skeete married William Barton Gibbons, 24 September 1834, St Peter., Barbados. The witnesses were Hampden Clement (q.v.) and Samuel Hinds (q.v.)

  3. Skeete was President of the Council of Barbados, 1820, 1825, 1827, 1829-1830.
