Thomas Anderson

???? - 2nd Jan 1810

Biography

Owner of Constitution Hill in St John. Died in Jamaica 02/01/1810. His executor was his brother John Anderson (who died himself in 1818).

The estate of Thomas Anderson became embroiled in a legal dispute following claims that William Shand, executor of John Anderson, had mismanaged the estate and squandered the inheritance of the heirs of both Thomas and John Anderson.

Margaret Anderson, widow of Alexander Bain deceased, claimed her husband and children were the residuary legatees of both Thomas and John Anderson. She claimed herself and her children were due £43,486 14s 2d from the intromission of William Shand with the Jamaican estates and effects of Thomas Anderson, and similarly £8545 2s 6d from that of John Anderson. Her children were named as Robert Anderson, Margaret Anderson junior, Christian Anderson, Elspet Bain and Isabella Hardy. Her claim against the estate of Thomas Anderson included enslaved people on Constitution Hill and Charing Cross estates (Charing Cross has not been identified).
