Biography

Enslaved person living and working on Unity Valley Pen (Portland), Jamaica. Manumitted in 1795 by David Barclay (q.v.) and removed to Philadelphia, with 29 other freed persons from the estate, where placed under the care of Society for Improving the Condition of Free Blacks.

Casar was 6 at the time of his manumission and listed as 'native of Jamaica'. Upon arriving in Philadelphia he was indentured for 15 years. He died shortly afterwards and was interred in Potter's Field 'attended by Absalom Jones, minister of the African Church, William Holden and several of the Committee.'
