Biography

Son of Gilbert Fleming (d. 1762, Lt-Gov. of St Kitts and Lt-General of Leeward Islands 1733), father-in-law of Sir John Brisco 1st bart. (q.v.) and grandfather of Sir Wastel Brisco second bart.

  1. Will of Gilbert Fane Fleming of Wimpole Street St Marylebone proved 14/01/1777. Under the will, he left the reversion (if his two daughters die without issue) of his two plantations, Shadwell in St George Basseterre and Grange in St Marys Cayon to John Brisco of Crofton Hall, Co. Cumberland [this implies the estates had been entailed by Fleming's father]. 'All my negroes and my two other plantations called Westhope in St Peters Basseterre and Salt Ponds in St Geo. Basseterre in trust, to secure his debts, £800 p.a. to his wife, and for the use of his daughter Carolina Alicia, wife of John Brisco, for her life, then to her son. His first daughter Camilla Annabella (1755-1780) had married Edward Cary (1735-1822) of Follaton Co. Devon.
