Biography

Will of Adam Smith, [late of Jamaica but now residing in Portland Street in the parish] of St Marylebone [made 01/03/1815] proved 04/09/1815. He left his Jamaica property including enslaved people in trust, to fund annuities of £300 p.a. each to his sisters-in-law Catherine Muschett and Anne Newsome, and £100 p.a to his brother Thomas Smith. He left a series of monetary legacies of £500 to family and friends, including Miss Cordelia James of Bath, daughter of his late esteemed friends Hugh James and Elizabeth James of Bath. His residuary legatee was his brother William Smith and the latter's heirs.
