William Henry Jervis (ne Ricketts)

Biography

Elder son of William Henry Ricketts of Canaan Jamaica and Longwood Hampshire, and Mary Jervis. Nephew and heir of John Jervis, 1st Viscount St Vincent, whom he predeceased.

  1. Will of William Henry Jervis Captain in HM's Navy of Woodlands Hampshire proved 13/07/1805. In the will he confirmed the settlement he had made in favour of his daughters Martha Honora Georgiana and Henrietta Elizabeth Mary Jervis of 28/02/1800, which specified that within 12 months of the death of the Elizabeth Countess of Cavan he would free up for the benefit of his daughters £4000 from the assets securing of an annuity of £250 p.a. to Lady Elizabeth Jane Lambart (formerly Ricketts), which he would instead secure on his West India estates. He also left his daughters an annuity of £100 p.a. each, his mother an annuity of £250 p.a. and £200 p.a.to Cecilia Jane Vinot [or Viner] of Fleetwood in Hampshire. He left his real estate to his son with Cecilia Jane Vinot [or Viner] William Henry Jervis, and if he [the son] died without heirs to his [the testator's] daughters.

  2. Jervis's daughter Martha married as her first husband Osborne Markham (1769-1827), briefly MP for Calne, in which capacity he opposed the abolition of the slave-trade, and secondly Lt-Gen Sir William Cockburn 6th bart. of that Ilk (1769-1835). .
