Biography

  1. Francis East of the parish of St Andrew, Jamaica. Son of John East and his wife Martha, baptised in St Andrew 05/07/1678. Sir Edward Hyde East was his grandson, the son of Francis's second son Edward (1732-?) and Edward's first wife Amy nee Hall.

  2. Member of Assembly for St Andrew in 1716.

  3. Francis East of St Andrew, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1737. Slave-ownership at probate: 62 of whom 28 were listed as male and 34 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £1999.08 Jamaican currency of which £18300 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £0 currency plate.

  4. The estate of Francis East was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 674 acres of land in St Andrew.
