Biography
- Will of William Samuells of [Hanover Jamaica but now residing in] the City of Bristol [made in 1791 and signed by mark] was proved 25/09/1793. He left to Frances Ann, 'a free negro woman' of Hanover the messuage she occupied known as Content for life and then to her son Rhodes Samuells, together with an annuity of £20 currency p.a. charged on Cousin's Cove. He left another 80 acres to four 'free mulattos', Benjamin, Richard, Samuel and William Samuells together with three new 'negro slaves' each. He placed his estate called Williamsfield in Hanover in trust to be sold, and from the proceeds he left £500 currency to William Samuells the son of his late brother Richard; £300 currency to Benjamin Samuells mentioned above; £600 currency to two nieces, daughters of his brother Charles; and £500 currency to another nephew, Francis Davis Samuells. He left the rest of his Jamaica estates to his nephew William Edward Samuells, son of his deceased brother Edward Samuells.
