???? - 1811
MP for Inverness Burghs 1807-1811, son and partner of Evan Baillie (q.v., d. 1835). 'He opted to join his father in his Bristol West India mercantile house, ran the business during Evan Baillie’s periods of absence and in 1806 became a partner in the Bristol Old Bank (Elton, Edwards, Baillie, Tyndall, Skinner and Company).' His son, Evan Baillie (1798-1883) succeeded his grandfather Evan Baillie (d. 1835) to Dochfour, and has a portrait in the National Portrait Gallery as 'landowner.'
The will of Peter Baillie of Bristol (written in 1799) was proved 03/04/1812. In it he rehearsed his marriage settlement of 1797 with Elizabeth Pinney, under which £15,000 was settled on her for life, and his residuary estate in a trust for his wife and children.
The great grandson of Peter Baillie, Augustus Charles Baillie (1861-1939) was co-founder of Baillie Gifford (1907) and of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust (1908).
