William Fitzgerald

Biography

  1. Born 01/08/1811 and baptised in London 23/08/1811, third and youngest son of Edward Dalling Fitzgerald and Sarah Genery (his parents were not married). Inherited £10,000 from his father (who died in 1815), payable out of the proceeds of Kildare estate in St George, Jamaica. He may not have received this inheritance as the estate was heavily indebted.

  2. Married Mary Ann Smith in All Hallows London Wall, 01/08/1842, when his father's name was given as Edward Dalling Fitzgerald, a merchant, and William's occupation given as Teacher. Both William and Mary Ann were living at 18 Saddlers Place at the time of marriage. In 1841 William Fitzgerald, School Assistant, was living at 4 St Germans Place, Kidbrooke, in Kent, in a boarding school with 54 male teenage pupils. In 1851 he was living at 5 Albert Terrace, Islington, a schoolmaster, age 39, born in Upper Seymour Street, with his wife, three young children and a female servant. In 1861 he was living at the same address with his place of birth given as Portman Square. By 1871 he was at 1 Tyndale Place, Islington, place of birth given as "nr Hyde Park".

  3. At Chapman Street, Islington for the birth of his daughter Mary Caroline in 1843, Ball's Pond, Islington for the baptisms of his son William Samuel and daughter Sarah Emma in 1851. Of Albert Terrace for the birth of his daughter Maryann Amelia in 1856.
