Biography

Executor and trustee of John Cope Freeman (q.v.).

  1. Capel Cure of Blake Hall who Deputy Lieutenant of Essex in 1798 and High Sheriff of Essex in 1799. He bought Blake Hall in 1789 and 'by 1804 ... had extended the house, rearranged the gardens, and laid out a small park ... possibly under the direction of Humphry Repton ...'

  2. Son of George Cure of Haymarket, London, upholsterer to the Prince of Wales, and his second wife Catherine Payne, daughter of Capel Payne of St Anne's Westminster. Of Great George Street, Westminster, and afterwards of Blake Hall, Bobbingworth, Esquire. Baptised at St Martin-in-the-Fields, 26/03/1742/3. Died 21/01/1820. Married Elizabeth (she died 10/09/1773) and then 11/11/1790 in Bobbingworth, Essex, married Joanna Coape, daughter of John Coape of Exton, Nottinghamshire (she died 03/06/1804 aged 43).

  3. Memorial inscription in Bobbingworth include 'a double memorial erected by Capel Cure, c. 1805, to his first wife Elizabeth d. 1773 and his second wife Joanna d. 1804, by Henry Rouw, and to Capel Cure himself d. 1820 by Peter Rouw the Younger. In the churchyard a large chest tomb contains all three.'
