Biography

Resident slave-owner in Jamaica. Monumental Inscriptions shows him dying of Spring Mount 10/03/1788 age 56, but the Accounts Produce show him dead by 1778.

Benjamin Heath of St James, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1778. Slave-ownership at probate: 274 of whom 152 were listed as male and 122 as female. 56 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £21,951.43 Jamaican currency of which £16,745.75 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £489.03 currency debts and £39.5 currency plate.
