David Bernard the elder

No Dates

Biography

Co-owner of Retreat estate with Joseph Eddy (q.v.): both men appear to have died c. 1768. David Bernard the elder appears to have been connected with the Bernard family of Bristol - his executor was shown as Charles Bernard. In most accounts of that family the first generation in Jamaica is shown only through Charles Bernard (1720-1790), father inter alios of Charles Bernard, David Bernard and William Rhodes Bernard (each of whom q.v.), but the evidence points to at least one generation in Jamaica prior to Charles Bernard (1720-1790), who was possibly the brother of David Bernard the elder.
