Biography
Overseer on Mount Pleasant in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica, in 1778, and then slave-owner in his own right.
- 'Will' of Joseph Orr of St Thomas-in-the-East proved 11/09/1798. He left two wills, both benefiting his family in Co. Tyrone. The second made 01/12/1790 left the proceeds of the sale of his property - specified as including Cambridge and Springfield in St Thomas-in-the-East - to his nephews, both named Joseph, one the son of his brother David and one the son of his brother William; the first made in 1784 a series of bequests, including 'six new negro girls' to be purchased for Josephina, the daughter of Cicely, 'a free Sambo woman', and left his residuary estate to all his nephews called Joseph.
