1750 - 1826
MP for Ayr Burghs, son of William Campbell of Liston Hall and Susanna Bernard, daughter of Hon. Thomas Bernard of Jamaica (q.v.). A beneficiary of slavery: his mother inherited £5000 from her father, and John Campbell was also the co-heir of his uncle William Henry Bernard (q.v.). To date, no direct slave-ownership has been traced.

Enslaved boy on Unity Valley Pen, Jamaica. Manumitted in 1795 by David Barclay and removed to Philadelphia, with 29 other freed persons from the estate, where he was placed under the care of Society for Improving the Condition of Free Blacks.
Document comprises 4 parts, written recto and verso across 5 folios: 1. An inventory and valuation of enslaved persons at Windsor Estate, St Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, 1814. 2. An inventory and valuation of enslaved persons at Williamsfield settlement, St Elisabeth parish, Jamaica, 1814. 3. An inventory of animals at Windsor Estate, St Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, 1814. 4. A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
