Richard Alexander Busby

3rd Oct 1784 - ????

Biography

Born 03/10/1784 and baptised 12/02/1785 in St Michael, Barbados, son of Thomas and Isabella Busby. His father married Isabella Cooke, probably also the mother of Richard Alexander Busby, in St Michael 18/04/1789 (they had another son, Thomas Gibbes Busby, baptised in St Michael 09/01/1790).

Richard Alexander Busby married Ann Maria Murrow in St Michael, 26/05/1803. Three children baptised in Christ Church: Thomas Alexander (1810), Richard Gibbes Warner (1813) and Isabella Ann (1817).

Richard Alexander Busby manumitted three enslaved people in 1816: Peggy Ann and her daughters Malvina and Betsy Ann. The manumission was recorded in London using Edward Burton as an intermediary. Malvina and Betsy Ann may be the illegitimate children of Richard Alexander. Malvina, "a mulatto child, slave of Hannah Hall Ince" was baptised in Christ Church in 1815 - this may or may not be the same child. A Frances Malvina Busby had a son, Theodore Horatio Busby, baptised in Christ Church in 1854; she married Benjamin Nelson Linton in Christ Church 31/08/1854. Peggy Ann, Malvina and Betsy Ann have not been traced further.
