Richard Basnett was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 500 acres of land in St Mary.

  1. Will of Richard Basnett [late of the island of Jamaica but now] of Hammersmith [made in 1773] proved 24/12/1774. He left to his wife Ann, daughter of John and Penelope Grove of Southampton, all the arrears due to him from Brimmer Hall since 1771 and whatever claim he had to 'land and negroes' in St Andrews and also whatever effects were left to him by his mother Rachael Basnett of Jamaica. He asked his brother-in-law William Grove to forgive the debt owed to him [Grove] by the testator in favour of Ann Basnett and commended to the care of his wife his niece Penelope Raggatt.
