John Morant IV

1723 - 9th Aug 1741

Biography

John Morant IV, eldest son of John Morant III and his wife Mary nee Pennant. Baptised in Clarendon, Jamaica, in 1723. The will of John Morant III has not been located so it's not clear what of his father's extensive property was inherited by John IV. He died 09/08/1741 aged 18 and his brother Samuel died in October 1752, also aged 18. John Morant was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 4631 acres of land in Clarendon and 3528 acres of land in Vere, total 8159 acres. It's not clear which John Morant this refers to, as by 1754 the family estates had devolved to John Morant IV's brother Edward Morant (1730-1791).
