Biography

Secretary and then from 1787 accountant (or 'accomptant') of the London Assurance. He appeared as assignee of the Ottley Hall estate (and enslaved people) on St Vincent after he had lent £5035 to John Petrie and Dugald Campbell in 1802.

  1. The will of Edward Austen of London Assurance Birchin Lane Cornhill was proved 09/05/1809. The will was made in 1794, predating his involvement in St Vincent, and left £5000 and a life interest in his personalty to his wife Ann, and then to his brothers Nathaniel and George Austen.
