Joseph Gerrald of St Kitts

???? - 1775

Biography

Slave-owner on St Kitts, who moved his family to London in 1765 before returning to St Kitts, dying in the West Indies in 1775. The 1753 Samuel Baker map shows what appear to be two separate estates in the centre of Christchurch St Nichola Town parish marked 'Gerald' [sic].

  1. The ODNB entry for his son, also named Joseph Gerrald (1763-1797) shows Joseph Gerrald the elder as dying in 1775 and leaving his son a financially tangled inheritance.
