Rev. George Campbell Brodbelt

1760 - 1801

Biography

Anglican clergyman, Rector and Perpetual Curate of Loudwater Buckinghamshire, and inheritor of an estate and enslaved people on Nevis under the will of his father James Brodbelt (q.v.). His own will proved 29/01/1802 is silent on 'slave-property', and it is possible the property and people he inherited were purchased by John Stanley (q.v.), whose will commented that he had recently bought an estate [and enslaved people] that [and whom] had belonged to James Brodbelt.

  1. An extensive 'Memoir of Rev. George Campbell Brodbelt' appeared in 1801 in the Evangelical Magazine which said of him: 'His father was a considerable planter: but at his death the estate was left so much involved, that the family derived little benefit therefrom.'
