Biography

Lieutenant-General, awarded the compensation with others for Vernons estate in Antigua as asssignees of an annuity: the men were possibly trustees.  Given in the compensation records as W.A. Johnson, but identifiable through his Witham-on-the-Hill address (also given in the records) as William Augustus Johnson.  

  1. Will of William Augustus Johnson, a Lieutenant-General in the Army, of Wytham on the Hill, who died 26/10/1863, proved 06/05/1864, effects under £4000 resworn September 1864 at under £8000.

  2. Col. W. A. Johnson of Witham Lincolnshire's daughter Jane married 1859 John William Cheney Ewart (1834-1865), grandson of William Ewart of Liverpool; William Cheney Ewart left £140,000 on his death.
