Biography

Awarded the compensation with 'Samuel Stenhouse' (probably his brother Samson Senhouse (q.v.)) as executors of his mother Elizabeth Ward Senhouse (q.v.) for two enslaved people on Barbados.

  1. Sir Humphrey Fleming Senhouse (1781-1841), captain in the Royal Navy, baptised 06/06/1781, third son of William Senhouse, Surveyor of Barbados, and Elizabeth, daughter of Samson Wood speaker of the House of Assembly. Grandson of Humphrey Senhouse of Netherall Cumberland. Knighted 1834, died 14/06/1841.

  2. Rose Mary Fleming, daughter of H. Fleming Senhouse was born in Queven, Brittany, in France in 1828; her father at the time was given as 46 years old and a Captain in the Royal Navy.

  3. Humphrey Senhouse bought Seascale (now called Steelfield Hall) from his brother Samson c. 1835. He built the current building (which has later additions) c. 1840.
