Robert Metcalfe

1804 - 1851

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Inherited compensation as one of the remaindermen under the will of George Metcalfe (q.v.). This is probably the 'Mr Robert Metcalfe of Hawes' specified in the will as son of Thomas who was named as executor in the will of 1820 but struck out as too young and replaced with Anthony Davis of Philadelphia.

  1. Robert Metcalfe baptised Aysgarth 1804, son of Thomas Metcalfe and Ann Wilson. In 1851 Robert Metcalfe aged 47 born Hawes was living at Rigg house High Abbotside farmer of 28 acres born Hawes with wife Ann aged 42, sons George 9 and Charles 6 and daughter Margaret 11/2. Death of Robert Metcalfe registered Q2 1851 Askrigg Yorkshire.

  2. Under George Metcalfe's will, the 3 tenants-in-common were Robert Atkinson 'now in Richmond', Thomas Davis of Gargrave and Isaac Metcalfe, now 'in London'. An Isaac Metcalfe, son of Thomas Metcalfe and Ann Wilson, was baptised Aysgarth Yorkshire 1799, and so would appear to be the older brother of Robert Metcalfe (and Edward and John Wilson Metcalfe).
