Biography

Resident slave-owner, Member of the Assembly. Given as Edward Truman Guy in the compensation records.

  1. An Edward Trueman Guy was baptised on the Isle of Man, 30/12/1757, son of John Hudson Guy and Sarah Allen. This man would have been very elderly to have been active in Jamaica as a member of the Assembly in the 1830s.

Sources

Caribbeana Vol. III 'Guy of Jamaica' does not show Edward Trueman Guy but says of 'Edward Freeman Guy' (1793-1854), son of John Hudson Guy (1754-1816) that Trueman is given for Freeman in [Archer's] M[onumental] I[nscriptions] Vol. I p. 219. It seems likely that there is confusion and that the man of this entry is Edward Trueman Guy (1793-1854).
