Biography

Awarded part of the compensation for Vernons estate on Antigua; his brother or nephew James Cranbourne Strode (q.v.) was awarded another part of the same claim as assignee with the Revs. John and Henry Kirby (both of whom q.v.). It appears likely that the claim by James Cranbourne Strode and the Revs. Kirby was under a marriage settlement on Charles Henry Strode's marriage to Jane Ruth Kirby.  

  1. Charles James Henry Strode, son of James Strode and Isabella, was baptised in Little Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire, 01/06/1783. James Strode married Isabella keet in Little Berkhampstead, 14/05/1778. A report on the case Maberly v. Strode (1797) gives some family background including a mention that James Strode died 01/04/1787 leaving his wife Isabella with five children. Charles Henry Strode married Jane Ruth Kirby at Mayfield Sussex 29/01/1816. Two children baptised in Frant, Sussex: Ruth Grace (1817) and William Thomas (1819). Charles Henry Strode, a widower, married Caroline Wombwell at St George's Bloomsbury 12/04/1820. Probably the Charles Strode age 55, Independent, born out of county, living at Newbridge Green, Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, in 1841 with Ruth Strode age 20 and 2 female servants. In 1851 he was a visitor at Hedsor house, Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Lt. Col. Herts Militia, birth place Great Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Death of Charles Henry Strode registered Q3 1857 at Droitwich. Charles Henry Strode, Esquire, died at the Cedars, Ombersley, Worcestershire, 20/09/1857 aged 74. Will of Charles Henry Strode, late Lieutenant Colonel of the Hertfordshire militia of Ombersely, Worcestershire proved 05/10/1857.
