Biography

Awarded part of the compensation for Foulis plantation in British Guiana as executor of William Munro (probably his father-in-law); the bulk of the compensation in the award went to the British merchant firm of Thomas and John Daniel.

  1. Will of William Munro planter of Berbice South America proved 28/07/1832.

  2. In 1851 Thomas Ansell MD St Andrews 'in general practice' aged 52 born Thame Oxon was living at Harley Place Stratford-Le-Bow with wife Eliza aged 52 born Berbice West Indies with two daughters (Mary and Louisa) aged 23 and 20 both born Bow.  In 1861 he was at the same address aged 62 with [second] wife Isabella aged 44 and daughter Mary Sarah aged 35 born Bow.

  3. Thomas Ansell was described as proprietor of Foulis, 'residing in England' in 1844 in a legal notice from W. W. Bennett, Marshal of Berbice, dated 22/11/1844. The proprietor of Foulis as of 1842 was identified as 'Dr Ansell' in E. Stanley's letter to Gladstone of 1850.

  4. Thomas Joseph Ansell married Eliza Munro at St Marylebone 26/09/1821. One of the witnesses was William Munro.   

  5. Will of Thomas Ansell MD late of Harley Place Bow who died 24/07/1866 proved 06/09/1866 by executors including William Thomas Ansell of Cork, effects under £7000, resworn at £8000 January 1868.
