One of the illegitimate children of Ann Whyte, "a free Sambo woman". With his mother and siblings, John owned enslaved people in St Thomas-in-the-East, although Robert Edmiston senior Esquire (presumably his father) held the life interest. Baptised aged 6 in St Thomas-in-the-East, 10/03/1821.
